I understand and sympathize with the pursuit of a 'two state' solution, and, if we were talking about this anywhere in Europe or Asia --or in N. or S. America-- I believe it would have a chance. But humans who are committed to a society that privileges, legally, socially and economically, only their co-religionists or race cannot settle for a state that contains 'others.' The fact is that both 'sides' in this struggle want the same territory. The terrible irony of their continued mis-reading of G-d's command that they remove their sandals because the land on which they are standing is holy is almost overwhelming. The point of that remark is that ALL LAND IS HOLY, as are all people. Until we outgrow that mis-reading, we are doomed to repeat the sorrow and hand on to our children and grand-children, the pity.
